(501) MASK [La Maschera] (1988) debut for Helena Bonham Carter

A Very Young Helena Bonham Carter stars in an early Obscure Italian Film!

Original Italian Title: LA MASCHERA [The Mask]
also known as CHASING WORLD

director: Firella Infascelli
starring: Helena Bonham Carter Michael Maloney Feodor Chaliapin Roberto Herlitzka Michele de Marchi

A debauched nobleman attempts to seduce a beautiful young actress but she is repelled by his advances. Frustrated, he tries again but this time hiding his identify behind a series of specially crafted masks. He is more successful but the masks cannot fully hide the emptiness in his soul.

This Italian-made feature film is an early starring role for a very young Helena Bonham Carter, long before her days with directors Kenneth Branagh, Woody Allen and Tim Burton. In 1987, she was denied admission to prestigious King's College [Cambridge University] not because of her grades or her test scores but rather because she had told school officials that she was hoping for an acting career. They were afraid that she would leave mid-term to pursue her non-academic goals. Because of Cambridge University's rejection, Helena accepted this role in Italy. She has since made 100 films.

An Italian production with English subtitles; widescreen format (16:9), uncut (87 minutes), DVD encoded for ALL REGION NTSC WORLD FORMAT; extras include selected theatrical trailers.
