(420) BASKIN (2015) Extreme Horror from Turkey
(420) BASKIN (2015) Extreme Horror from Turkey

original Turkish title: KARABASAN BASKIN [Nightmare Raid]

directors: Can Evrenol
starring: Mehmet Cerrahoglu ˇ Görkem Kasal ˇ Ergun Kuyucu ˇ Muharrem Bayrak ˇ Fatih Dokgöz

As the unrelenting, dark impact of Turkish horror continues to gain an International popularity (SICCIN, DABBE, BLACK MAGIC, et al) , here is something a bit different. And perhaps more accessible for the Western audiences. Like so many other contemporary Turkish horror films, this is a wildly effective, gross-out journey into a shadow world. However, unlike all the others, this one does not rely on religion, superstition or possession to ignite the terror. Here is an ultra-violent descent into a sick place that may - in fact - be Hell [with a capital "H"] but is more likely something even more disturbing. The story (once you get past the initial, character-driven first 15 minutes or so) is about a police squad dispatched to an abandoned building after another unit requests backup. But, once they arrive and find no one fortifying the place, the squad reluctantly decides to enter the building. As they go inside, the men stumble upon... and become victims of... a blood-n-sex orgy.

This is the debut film for young director Can Evrenol, born in Istanbul but a graduate of film and cinema art from the University of Kent in Canterbury England. He lists CALVAIRE as one of his favorite films [and inspiration for this award winning project].
