A sleazy tale of sex, cocaine and a disco airplane. A rock star from the '60s attempts to make a comeback but is challenged by a disco idol and his unscrupulous manager. Fabian - yes, the teen idol from the fifties - plays former pop singer Richie Desmond who attempts a comeback in the disco era, but he and his manager Brian get bamboozled by corrupt club owner/music entrepreneur Cybil Michaels. She tricks Richie into a contract that forces him to be an "opening act" for her new disco star Tommy Aspen to celebrate the grand opening of her new discothèque airplane. [Right, a flying disco! see pic below, left]

There are so many things to like in this horribly bad movie! It seems like the obvious culmination of too much cocaine and music biz excess. Of course, Fabian (this time hiding behind a beard) is miserably miscast as Richie Desmond, as he sings a collection of songs that don't even closely resemble disco. But he IS fun to watch and seems to realize that he's a-fish-out-of-water in this picture, thus adding to its over-all charm. He's teamed up with [American Top 40 host] Casey Kasem who plays his inept manager, spending the entire movie dispersing coke and trying to get laid. [They also starred together in the previous SOUL HUSTLER.]

Michael Blodgett, best known to genre fans for his Lance Rock role in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls [and the subsequent VELVET VAMPIRE] is disco star Tommy Aspen. This was his final movie. Mr Blodgett quit acting and became a successful novelist. He wrote the bestselling novels Captain Blood, Hero and Terror, and The White Raven before his death from a heart attack at age 68, November 2007.
