original Brazilian/Portuguese title MANGUE NEGRO
starring: Ricardo Araujo · Marcelo Castanheira · Kika De
Oliveira · Walderrama Dos Santos
In a polluted mangrove swamp, the locals
recall the time when they could fish and catch mud crabs, feed their families
and themselves inside the isolated community. Now, the swamp is dead.
The people can hardly find a fish or a crab in the dirty toxic water.
One night, dead bodies rise from the swamp, attacking and biting the poor
dwellers who then also transform into flesh-hungry zombies. Luis fights
against the monsters to survive and save the life of his girlfriend Raquel,
is the very first zombie movie from Brazil. The director is Rodrigo Aragao.
He has since become the major driving force for horror cinema in that
country. His independent films are immediately reminiscent of the Italian
productions of the '70s and '80s [and of course, George Romero's groundbreaking
OF THE DEAD]. This debut project was followed by Noite Do Chupacabras
[Night of the Chupacabras] in 2011 and Mar Negro [Dark Sea] (2013).
Brazilian/Portuguese film with optional ON/OFF English subtitles;
widescreen format, uncut (105 min.),
in DVD format, encoded for ALL REGIONS, playable on any American DVD machine.
Extras include selected Rodrigo Aragao trailers.
