After
getting banned in Spain, this one is generally considered the 'Holy
Grail of Rape Movies,' virtually impossible to find, even though
similar films from this same period [LAST
HOUSE ON THE LEFT and I SPIT ON YOUR
GRAVE, etc] are readily available today. DAWN
remains one of the most disturbing (in a remarkably crowded category)
due to the sheer amount of rape and violence displayed on the screen.
Please note: this is a very nihilistic
and angry film.
Four
young delinquents are depicted without a glimpse of humanity as they
assault, rape and beat random victims, with no sense of remorse or empathy.
As they continue to push each other further and further into a crazed
mania, women are abused, whipped and degraded in every possible way.
This was one of director Ignacio Iquino's first Category 'S'
Films, after a long career in move-making that began in the mid-1930s.
In the '60s and '70s, he specialized in Spaghetti Westerns, usually
under the Steven McCoy alias. [Interestingly, writing credits for this
film use that same pseudonym.] Mr Iquino died from a heart attack in
April 1994, at age 83.
