        Corrupted
by a demonic power, a Jesuit priest and his followers begin a reign
of bloody carnage in colonial Brazil. Eventually, they are cursed to
'live forever' under the graves of a cemetery. But now, centuries later,
they have discovered a way to break free. These undead creatures [vampires?]
soon challenge the vulnerable castle community as well as a traveling
circus and jungle cannibals. The plot is stuffed with every possible
horror element, but ultimately this is an eye-popping, ultra-violence
gore fest with significant sociological concerns smoldering at its base.
        Since
          his first film (MUD
ZOMBIES), director Rodrigo Aragao has become the major driving
force for horror cinema in Brazil. His productions are immediately reminiscent
of the Italian genre cinema of the '70s and '80s. The opening credits
also give recognition to the late José Mojica Marins [Ao Mestre
Jose Mojica Marins], "To the Master Jose Mojica Marins."
