Ecuadorian/Spanish title VUDú SANGRIENTO (Bloody Voodoo)
director: Manuel Caņo (as M. Caņo)
starring Aldo Sambrell · Tanyeka Stadler · Eva Leon ·
Fernando Sancho · Alexander Abrahan (as Kurd Abraham)

The
story deals with a mummy called Gatenebo - reborn from an ancient voodoo
death - destined to create havoc aboard a luxury cruise liner. The film
begins on a Caribbean island, with an adulterous couple discovered in
their affair by a jealous husband. After his murder, the couple is condemned
to death by the tribe in a grisly voodoo execution. Years later, the
mummy is unearthed and arrangements made for transportation aboard an
ocean cruiser to a European museum. Obviously, things go very wrong.
Gatenebo awakens and embarks on a bloody rampage of slaughter and beheadings.
At the same time, he falls in love with beautiful nightclub dancer Sylvia
whom he believes is the reincarnation of his former lover.
Over
the years, this film has seen a variety of releases [ranging from a
severely edited 71 minutes to the more acceptable 89 minutes]. But
here now is the extremely rare, uncut 96 minute version! It stars
the well-known European supporting-actor Aldo Sambrell as Gatenebo,
80 pounds lighter and mostly in black-face for this lead role. Oddly,
it seems as though Caņo couldn't find black actors for the parts;
most appear to be black-face [see pic below, center]. This is the second
horror movie directed by Manuel Caņo, shot after the grossly
under-appreciated SWAMP
OF RAVENS. He is probably better known for his previous Steve
Hawkes Tarzan movies TARZAN'S
GREATEST CHALLENGE and TARZAN
AND THE TREASURE OF EMERALD CAVE.
