Mexico's Legendary 'Day of the Dead' Fantasy

Original Mexican/Spanish Title: MACARIO: DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

director: Roberto Gavaldon

Poor, hungry peasant Macario craves just one good meal to celebrate the Day of the Dead. After his wife cooks a turkey for him, he meets three ghosts... the Devil, God, and Death. Each asks him to share his turkey, but he refuses all except Death. In return, Death gives him a bottle of water which will heal any illness. Soon, Macario's magic potion makes him wealthy but draws the attention of the feared Inquisition.

Based on the story The Third Guest  by B. Traven, author of the legendary The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (and numerous episodes of the Cheyenne television series), this film won many International awards and was responsible for the major influx of fantasy in Mexico's cinema of the '60s.
